Saturn is a handcrafted kinetic sculpture that floats a 6.5 mm magnetic sphere inside a 9.5 mm ring using a tunnel of diamagnetic bismuth. Gravity and magnetism balance perfectly to create stable, permanent levitation—no electricity required.

Inspired by the first time I saw Saturn through a telescope, this mini floating “planet” makes a memorable gift for astronomy lovers, science enthusiasts, and curious minds.

The gold-plated sphere fits precisely inside its ring magnet. You can spin it for smooth rotation or angle it slightly to create a gentle wobble.
Note: The magnet remains levitated indefinitely but will need a small push or puff of air to start spinning again.

How It Works

Bismuth—the most diamagnetic metal on Earth—repels magnetic poles equally. When paired with a precisely positioned upper magnet, the sphere becomes light enough to lift and float freely.

Setup

Place the sculpture on a level surface. Insert the Saturn magnet into the center opening.
Turn the top magnet clockwise to raise it or counterclockwise to lower it until the sphere reaches perfect equilibrium and levitates.
